Beyond Black Mesa
Friday January 21, 2011 a short film made by an independent filmmaker was released to the public. The film, Beyond Black Mesa, is an action packed short movie in a Half Life-like setting. The main character is Adrian Shephard, a member of a resistance group, who is on the run for The Combine.
The film features some really awesome special effects and music that really take you into the movie. Their were 7 people involved in making the film and their budget was only 1200 dollar.
You can check out the Beyond Black Mesa website for more information about the cast and some peaks behind the scene. And also there is a previous released film by the same filmmaker: CONCRETE HUSTLE lightsaber duel, which is also pretty awesome.
More independent films on the rise
Besides Beyond Black Mesa there is more going on in the independent filmmaking. For example, back in 2009 there appeared a short film on YouTube called “What’s in the box“. The film was made by Tim Smit, from the Netherlands, and was shot in Nijmegen. It’s another example of what independent filmmakers can do these days with a low budget and a little bit of equipment.
I enjoy the fact that there are some new filmmakers on the rise, and I may only hope there are many more to come. Be sure to check the Independent Films channel on Vimeo for more amazing short films.
